Recently, the Fulbright Program announced the following about some of its most illustrious alums:

Congratulations to Dr. Robert Montgomery, Muhammad Yunus, and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins for being featured in the TIME list of the 100 most influential people of 2025!

These Fulbrighters are among the “leaders shaping the world today and defining its future.”

  • Robert Montgomery, who was a 1989 Fulbright U.S. Scholar to the United Kingdom, is a renowned transplant surgeon whose work has enabled thousands to receive lifesaving organs. He is credited with performing the first successful genetically modified pig-to-human kidney transplant in 2021 and has been on the front lines of medical innovation as the director of NYU Langone’s Transplant Institute.
  • Muhammad Yunus, who was a 1965 Fulbright Foreign Student from Bangladesh, is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, celebrated for his groundbreaking work as an economist, microfinance pioneer, and founder of the Grameen Bank. He was appointed Chief Adviser of Bangladesh in 2024, leading its interim government.
  • Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, who was a 2009 Fulbright U.S. Student to Germany, is an acclaimed playwright recognized for his theatrical work which has earned three Tony Awards and an Obie Award. Jacobs-Jenkins’ new play “Purpose” recently opened on Broadway, and a biographical musical about the artist Prince, penned by Jacobs-Jenkins, will open in Minneapolis in the fall.
