The Alliance for International Exchange’s Executive Director Mark Overmann recently reported that the US Office of Management and Budget has announced plans to cut funding for 22 international exchange programs overseen by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

As Overmann stated, “Revoking the FY25 funding for these programs will greatly damage 75+ years of exchange activity and the legacy of Senator Fulbright.” It also risks “stranding 7,500+ American high school and college students and professionals who are currently abroad on ECA programs.”

These exchange programs, as noted by Overmann, are grounded in “Senator Fulbright’s legacy and vision for spreading American influence and values around the world.” Those of us who #StandForFulbright also stand for the continuation of these other exchange programs.
