Join us for a gathering at the Western North Carolina Nature Center preceded by lunch on Saturday, August 29, 2026. You will meet with Carol Bender (Fulbright Scholar to Japan (’97); India (2011); and Hungary (2025)) and many other Fulbright alums and Fulbrighters-to-be.

The WNC Nature Center, located at 75 Gashes Creek Road, Asheville, North Carolina, is a 42-acre zoological park showcasing animals and plants native to the Southern Appalachian Mountains. It features regional wildlife like black bears, red wolves, and river otters along accessible, family-friendly walking paths.

  • When: Saturday, August 29, 2026, 11:00 AM
  • Where: Meet for lunch at Okie Dokies Smokehouse, 2375 US Hwy 70, Swannanoa, NC 28778 (payment on your own – we may be able to provide appetizers if funding is available) – we will travel to the WNC Nature Center from here
  • Cost: $5 for members of the Fulbright Association and current Fulbright students/scholars (past scholars can apply to be FA members here: https://fulbright.org/membership/, those under age 26 in their first year after Fulbright Program completion get two years of free membership), $10 for guests
