During Wilmington NC’s Riverfest we held a two-day event that was sponsored by the NC Chapter of the Fulbright Association with support from the US Department of State. A reception was held in a Riverwalk hotel on Saturday, October 7. This venue is one that showcases an historic port city, founded in 1725, that represents so much of what locals deem “southern culture.” Since it was first held in 1979, Riverfest boasts a variety of amusements: street concessions, arts and crafts vendors, an antique car display, craft breweries, a kid zone, museums, one of the largest preserved historical districts in the US, manicured gardens, and fireworks from the WWII battleship USS North Carolina. On Sunday, October 8, two-time Fulbright recipient, member of the Fulbright Association, and world-renowned award-winning artist Janette Hopper hosted a tour of her organic/natural gardens and her art studio in Wilmington.
